Meet Rachida and Khalid!

One thing that we love in our job is that we have always great and interesting guests staying with us at Olo. And sometimes you start to talk with them a bit more and you find a story worth to tell.

So as the one about Rachida and Khalid who stayed with us some days at Dar Zitoun. We just started to found an association with other Imsouane locals. First big project was a cleaning event during five days in the village and at the beaches. I wanted to tell them about it, proud to talk about this great project. But in the end I actually learned a lesson about how someone includes active environmental awareness all the time in their life. When I met them outside and we started talking, they just came back from collecting trash at the beach and Khalid tells me they are doing it already since they arrived in Imsouane. He tells me they always have some trash bags in the car. Wherever they go they take them to clean up around them. From hikes with their friends they never come back without a full trash bag. When they find plastic bottles they fill them with cigarette stubs. And they already filled a lot of bottles as you can see in the pictures!

« I never sit down at a beach without cleaning it before » Khalid says. Honestly, with all our good will who else can say this amongst us? How often do you think „oh there is so much garbage again everywhere“ without taking it? It happens to me all the time unfortunately.

Rachida is a teacher for french at primary school and she talks to her students about waste, environmental pollution and how to take more care about our home planet. It is the kids who need to learn now about how to treat nature and our surroundings.

I am really happy to have had this talk with them. Even more as it came up in a moment where I already thought we are doing quite well with all our projects and steps towards leading a touristic business with awareness . BUT – there is always someone who inspires you to do a bit more !
